The Gothic castle has a unique position on a high rock, only accessible from a drawbridge which provided a good defensive system for the castle for centuries. Nowadays, Zvíkov is surrounded by Orlická dam and presents one of the most preserved royal castles from the period of Premyslid princes (Přemyslovci). The castle´s graceful courtyard with ambits and arcades is completed by partly furnished interiors. Tourists can also visit a lookout tower, a medieval cellar and the Chapel of St. Wenceslas with mural paintings from the end of the 15th. century, which belongs to the most beautiful early-Gothic interiors in the Czech Republic.
