Červený Hrádek Castle

GPS: 50°30'43.967", 13°26'40.34"

Jan Adam Hrzán of Harasov had a baroque castle built in the site of a Gothic castle ruined during the Thirty-year war. The architects of this castle were Italian Antonio della porta at the beginning and Frenchman Jean Baptiste Mathey in the end phase. In 1675 this four-wing construction was finished in essence. The names of outstanding baroque sculptors Jan Brokof and his son Ferdinand maxmilian, born here in 1688, are linked to the Červený Hrádek castle. The final modifications to this building werw carried out for the von Hohoenlohe-Langenburg family by Bohemian architect Jan Kotěra in 1895. In September 1938 important negotiations between German separatists and Lord Ruciman took place here. These negotiations led to British suppoet of the Munich Agreement regarding the separaton of the so-called Sudetenland from Czechoslovakia. Only the richly decorated main hall of the original castle´s interiors has remained.
