Description:

The Bastion Fortress of Terezín was founded in 1780 by Emperor Joseph II. and during the Second World War it was used as a prison and a concentration camp. More than 140 000 Jews passed through it, later on most of them were deported to the Auschwitz concentration camp. Their sad fate is remembered not only by the fortress itself, but also by several exhibitions, the National cemetery in front of the fortress, the Ghetto Museum in the building of a former school and a monument in the area of the former Madgeburg military house with replicas of prison dormitories.
