Description:
Together with the St. Prokop Church, the Sázava Monastery belongs to the oldest monastery complexes in the Czech Republic. It was founded at the beginning of the 11th. century as a benedictine abbey with the Old-Slavonic liturgy. The pilgrim tradition is connected to the lifestyle of Prokop – a hermit who later on became an abbot. The St. Prokop´s sightseeings are placed in the altar by the pulpit and the cave where Prokop used to live is nowadays a crypt under the altar.
